First, get out of the way
Amber often tells me, “when in doubt, leave it out.” I can hardly come up with a more succinct way of explaining what practicing good usability does for all kinds of applications, including websites. If I had a dime for every time someone wanted to add a feature, or a graphic, or an extra page where it wasn’t needed and didn’t serve an purpose… I’d have a lot more money.
People come to a website for a reason… to do something. It might be helpful to get out of the way and let them get on with it.
